Monoxide Gas Kills Man Working on Car at Home
Herbert E. Back, 54, 1720 17th Ave. S. an apparent victim of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning, was reported dead on arrival at a local hospital Friday after he was found in his car in the garage at his home.
Firemen were called to the Back address at 11:20 a.m. They said he apparently had backed his car into the garage and was working under the dash board with the motor running when he was overcome by the gas fumes. They said he had been lying on the seat of the car, apparently looking under the dash with a flashlight. The garage door was half open.
Back was found by Glen Workman and Harold Wright who were working on a home next door. They called firemen, who were unsuccessful in resuscitation efforts. Rensmon's ambulance took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Workman and Wright removed Back from the car to fresh air outside the garage before firemen arrived.
Back was born at Calvert, sooth of Great Falls, and attended school there. He lived all his life in the area, the past 25 years in Great Falls where he worked as a carpenter.
Surviving are the widow, three daughters, a grandson, and three sisters.
