On the 16th of September in Easty Hanover Township, Libanon Caunty, Adam Clay of Berks Co at the age of 62 years, 5 months, 29 days.
(We were notified of his death by postal service. The money for delivery was left for us to pay; which is not how it should be.)

In the name of God, Amen, I, Adam Clay Sr. of East Hanover Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, being in feable health of body, but of sound mind and memory for which mercies I desire to be thankful. Calling to mind the certainty of death and the uncertainty of time thereof and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs whilst I have strength and capacity to do so, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made.

First, I order and hereby direct and it is my will that my Executors hereinafter mentioned shall proceed as soon after my decease as my heirs may be best promoted to sell and make sale and title therefore my entire real estate and my personal estate and the proceeds of such sale after deducting all legal expenses the payment of any debts I may have unpaid at my decease it is also my will and I direct that my executors hereinafter mentioned shall select six persons to appraise my real estate as soon as before in mentioned and it is my will, and hereby direct it that my wife Elizabeth, shall have for her life time if remain my widow the north west room in the lower story of the house and sufficient room in the kitchen, the half of the garden, Hay for one cow, Pasture for one cow, stabling for the same, stabling for two hogs and corn to fatten one hog, wood as much as she needs to be cut ready for the stove, apples sufficient for her use and privilege to enter and reenter the porch and room in the celler by the person who may purchase the property, or hold it.

I hereby give and bequeath unto my son, Daniel, my son, Aaron, my son, Abraham, my son Adam or their heirs share and share alike of all such proceed which may be left from my entire real estate and my personal estate, excepting fifty dollars, which shall be paid to Eliza Meas, as soon as sufficient funds may be in the hands of my executor, and lastly I nominate and appoint my son, Daniel, to be my executor of this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of September, eighteen hundred and forty two.

Signed, Sealed, published and delivered by the said Adam Clay Sr. as and for his act and deed, his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence have subscribed our names.
