Our beloved Thelma Lee went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, after 97 rewarding years with family and friends. She was born to the late J. Egbert and Duron Turner Deen on March 31, 1910, in Wills Point.

Thelma Lee attended school in Wills Point. graduating in 1928. After graduation she attended Texas Woman's College, where she earned a Teacher's Permanent Elementary Certificate. She began her teaching career in the Orio District in Van Zandt County. This career led to many interesting places. After teaching in Beaumont for five years, Thelma Lee accepted a teaching position with Standard Oil Company of Venezuela, South America. On this adventure she met R.R. "Bud" Hanson, an oil driller. They married Feb. 26, 1946, in New Orleans, La. Thelma Lee and Bud made their home in Venezuela for 14 years before moving to Tyler to make their home and raise their two children.

Thelma Lee had a variety of interests. She continued using her teaching talent through tutoring children. She was truly an asset with her ability to speak Spanish. She enjoyed cooking and sharing recipes. Her handiwork was an expression of her creativity. Many little girls were recipients of her beautiful smocked dresses and bonnets. She enjoyed God's beautiful creations and was able to see many through her travels.

Thelma Lee was an active member of Green Acres Baptist Church, Flying Needles, Willow Brook Country Club and many community services.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Jack Deen, and children, Gary Hanson and Donna Hanson Torrejon.

Survivors are brothers, DeWitt and Ted Deen of Wills Point, Billy Deen of Canton; sister-in-law Nancy Deen of Wills Point; grandchildren, Randy Torrejon and wife Rebecca of Fort Collins, Colo., and Tracy Torrejon of Alto Loma, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Vivianna, Jona and Tyler. She also leaves a great host of nieces and nephews.

Thelma Lee, better known as Aunt Sis or the Queen, leaves behind her caregivers, niece Donna Gunter and the many wonderful loving, caring ladies from Home-Aid Caregivers.

Services for Thelma Lee Deen Hanson, 97, of Tyler, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Lloyd James Funeral Chapel with Dr. Paul Powell officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
