Abigail Garza Arguijo
October 27, 1947 - March 29, 2023

FORT WORTH - Abigail Garza Arguijo, 75, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023.
Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Greenwood. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Greenwood Chapel.
Abigail was born in Harlingen, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley where she lived intermittently early in life. At a young age, the family moved to Green Springs, Ohio where Abby would spend her youth. Located in northwest Ohio, Abigail lived on a farm in a house built in 1861 and helped tend to the property which included small livestock and a vegetable garden on 27 acres. After graduating high school in Findlay, Ohio, she went on to attend Ysleta Bible School in El Paso, Texas. In 1975, Abigail began her state career in Fort Worth working as a secretary at the State of Texas Welfare Department, and later transferred to Texas Rehabilitation Commission (TRC) now known as the Texas Workforce Commission.
In August 1976, she married Victor Arguijo, the love of her life. In the fall of 1980, Abigail began evening college courses in Lubbock at Texas Tech University and continued working full-time during the day. Her life was forever changed in February 1981, when she stopped to aid a lone woman having car trouble on the side of a busy road. A distracted driver hit the sidelined vehicles pinning Abigail in between. A near-double amputee, she would later fully recover and return to work where she furthered her career with the state. Victor and Abby bought their first home in Lubbock and had two children, Jessica and Vincent.
The Arguijos returned to Fort Worth where they have since resided.
Abby retired from TRC in 2000 after 25 years of state service. She received numerous accolades, honors, and letters of recognition including one from then-Governor George W. Bush.
Abigail was a devout Christian and donated her time and monies to various church causes and charities including several community pantries and food banks; the Wounded Warrior Project and other disabled veteran organizations; Goodwill Industries, and her favorite upon favorites, The Y Store which benefits the YWCA of Fort Worth.
Abigail was an avid note taker. A former secretary, she encouraged everyone to "document everything." She enjoyed researching historical information, keeping apprised of current events, and was often considered the family historian. She loved to journal daily activities and would often write poems for friends and loved ones to memorialize important events. She would write to service members stationed overseas and believed it was important to welcome home returning veterans, at times visiting wounded soldiers in local hospitals. She loved to go to antique malls and thrift stores and to give unique gifts. She thoroughly enjoyed planning and hosting gatherings such as her Annual Pizza Party featuring Parton's Pizza, and more regularly, weekly visits with her sisters, Nora and Ana, each Saturday afternoon "for one hour max." Abigail worked earnestly to stay in contact with family members of fellow TRC colleagues who have passed.
Abigail is survived by her husband of 46 years, Victor Arguijo of Fort Worth; children Jessica Arguijo of Austin and Vincent Arguijo, of Fort Worth. Survivors include sisters Lenore Oliver of Westworth, Febe Schoch of Fremont, Ohio, Ana Garza Goldstar of Fort Worth, brother Abraham Garza of Harlingen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Josefa Garza; brothers Luis, Jr., Absalom (Non), Solomon (Rey), Elieser (El), and Alfredo (Fred) Garza; and sisters Otila (Tillie) Kohlenberg, Isabel Martinez, and Eloise Perkins.
- In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Muscular Dystrophy Association.
