Sallie is the daughter of Samuel Honeycutt and Bridget Hampton. She was born in Yancey county, NC.

In about 1869 Sallie married James Marion Hunnicutt, who was the son of Reverend Sampson and Sarah Briggs Hunnicutt. They are the parents of Weighstill, Celie Socrata, Christopher Columbus, William Spurgeon, Sarah Bridget "Biddy", Samuel Jeter, Kina C (may be Kindness)and Lula. They made their home at Deep Creek in Swain county, NC before it became the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

James Marion died in 1904 and Sallie lived with family members until 1923 when she was admitted to Broughton State Hospital because of senile dementia. She died 5 years later.

Sallie is buried in the hospital cemetary.
