Mary J. Scribner, daughter of Frances (née Decker) and John Scribner, was born about 1855-57 in Illinois. The Scribner family was enumerated in 1870 in Fayette County, Illinois; John Scribner was then blind. In 1880, Mary Scribner, also blind, was living with her widowed mother and younger siblings in East Bend Township, Champaign County, Illinois. Mary Scribner died there in 1886 from tuberculosis.
