Mary was born January 14, 1932, in Obion County, daughter of the late Ellis Lee and Ada (McIlwain) Jenkins Rowling. She married James C. Nichols June 17, 1950. He passed away December 1, 2008. She worked for Kmart as an advertising manager for 39 ½ years. Mary was a member of Cobbs Chapel United Methodist Church where she was president of Seniors Friends and was a member of Woodmen of the World Lodge 196 in Hornbeak.
She is survived by her niece Suzanne Atrchison of Tiptonville; one sister, Peggy Adams of Ocala, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Stone Cranford and Katherine Hartnup; and two brothers, Harold Jenkins and Robert Jenkins.
