Joleen Bohi Parkinson, 94, of Ashton, Idaho, died April 23, 2023, at Homestead Senior Living in Rexburg of congestive heart failure.
She was born April 10, 1929, in Sugar City, Idaho to Joseph and Myrtle Lavern Bohi. She attended school in Sugar City. She was involved in music and worked away from home during the summer.
After high school, she attended college and earned her teaching degree. She taught first grade in Sugar City until her marriage to Dean Parkinson on June 12, 1951, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They made their home in Marysville and she taught first grade in Ashton for 34 years.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions, including leading the music in Primary (her favorite calling), as Relief Society President, organist, temple worker, and as a visiting teacher. She and Dean served a Stake Mission for two years.
She loved working in her yard and garden. Before Dean died in 2000, she promised him that she would take care of the yard, which she did.
She is survived by her children, DeAnn (Terry) Chadwick of Rexburg, Kelly (Sheri) Parkinson of Arimo, Kristi (Jim) Golding of South Weber, Utah, and Julie (Ken) Griffith of West Jordan, Utah; sisters, Nina Wilkins of Rexburg and Renee Lehman of San Clemente, California; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, five sisters, and a great-grandchild.
