Melva passed away peacefully on July 2, 2005 after a short battle with cancer.

She was born May 15, 1918 in West Jordan to Lars and Reinetta Bateman Christensen. She graduated in 1937 from Jordan High School. She married James C. Travis on July 12, 1938 in Boise, ID. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1992.

She is survived by daughters Bette Sylvester and Rita (Dan) Nicar of Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; sister, LaRene Middlemas; brother, Paul Christensen, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her daughters, Mary Kathleen Travis and Dixie Galaviz; three brothers and five sisters.

She enjoyed bowling and being with her friends and was an avid gardener.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. in the South Cottonwood 16th Ward, 5235 So. Wesley Road (1100 East). Friends may call Tuesday 7-9 pm at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 So. and Wed. at the Ward 1:30-2:15 p.m. Interment West Jordan City Cemetery.

The family would like to thank IHC Hospice for their love and care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family or to IHC Hospice.
