John Wesley Underwood, retired Miami county farmer who would have reached his 85th birthday had he lived five more days succumbed to infirmities at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening in his home. 28 West Broadway Tipp City. He had been seriously ill the last two weeks and previous to that had been in declining health for seven months.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon in the United
Brethren Church In Gighamsburg of which he was a member. Rev Mr Parker, minister of the church,and Rev Ira Clark, of Piqua. will be In charge of the rites. Burial will be made in Maple Hill Cemetery,Tipp City.

John Wesley Underwood was a son of the late John W and Margaret Underwood. He was born near Vandalia; Montgomery County, July 29,1855 but practically all of his life was spent near and in Tipp City. During his active years he engaged in farming, but retired 20 years ago from agricultural pursuits.

Dec 12, 1878 Mr. Underwood was united in marriage to "Mrs. Catherine Foreman Smith. The ceremony taking place in Dayton.
Survivors are six children. Mrs. Carrie Emerick, Mrs. Gertrude Robbins, and Raymond Underwood of Tippcity. Mrs Zelda Underwood of Piqua and Mrs. Noda Shearer and Foreman Underwood of Troy. One stepson C.D. Smith of Dayton. 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren and one brother Adam Underwood of Dayton.

Fraternally Mr. Underwood was an Odd Fellow and he had the distinction of being a member of the lodge in Dayton for 60 years. He was also affiliated with the IOOF Encampment and the Rebekah lodge in Tipp City.
