February 6, 1929 - April 10, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Baca, on April 10, 2023 in Tucson, AZ at the age of 94. He was a life-long resident of Clifton, AZ. Gilbert was born on February 6, 1929, in Morenci, AZ to parents Solomon Baca & Asunta Vozza Baca, joining his sisters Loretta, Orlanda, Mary, and Yolanda.
Gilbert graduated from Morenci High School in 1947, then began working at Phelps Dodge, and finally retired as a Car Shop Foreman. After retiring he became a school bus driver for Clifton Schools, where he was loved by everyone he drove. On June 13 of 1950, he eloped with his one true love, Mary Padilla in Lordsburg, NM. They had dated five years prior to marriage. They were later married in Holy Cross Catholic Church, in Morenci. The couple was blessed with the births of each of their children; Robert, Carla, Rosanna, and Terri.
His hobbies included making chili, watching sports and spending time with family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. The most meaningful events in his life were the births of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He was a member of the Beneficio Propio in Clifton, and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he enjoyed helping with events and fundraisers. Every night Gilbert would call his entire family to tell them "Goodnight, God bless you, I love you, sweet dreams, sleep with the angels, and if you need me call me".
Gilbert is survived by his children Robert (Jackie) Baca, Carla Abril, Rosanna (Gilbert) Alcarez, and Terri Corbell. He is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 20 Great-Grandchildren, and 13 Great-Great Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary P. Baca, his parents Solomon & Asunta Baca, and all of his siblings.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, followed by the Recitation of the Rosary, with the Mass of Christian Burial at the Sacred Heart Church in Clifton, AZ with Father John Ikponko as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery following services.
