Lester Curtis Simkins was thought to have several college degrees, some honorary.

He is known to have travelled extensively.

His first marriage to Anna Mary Jacobs produced four children: Claude Lester, Sidney Maurice, Carl and Nettie Mona Anna died from complications from childbirth and pneumonia. Baby Nettie given to maternal aunt to raise, and her name changed to Anne Mary.

His marriage to Harriet Stone Reeves produced six living children: Cyril Curtis and William Emerson (twins), Samuel Lewis, Robert Cecil, Lester Cyril, and Woodrow.

Cyril and William were ten years old when their father disappeared from their home in Hammond, Indiana, on March 21, 1926. Woodrow was a newborn.

It is thought that Lester Curtis travelled to Alaska, but he was last seen by his son Carl during the Spring of 1938.

Carl and his newborn son went to the vicinity of Battle Creek, Michigan for this visit. Carl returned to the town several years later only to discover that the farmhouse had burned to the ground and the neighbors had no idea where Lester had gone.
