An explosion occurred on 5th May 1883 at Priddy's Hard killing James Rayner, W Sewett, George Hilling, John Hollier, Benjamin Bunn and James Jones. Gunner Benjamin Bunn was a Wesleyan and was buried in the Dissenters part of the cemetery. Rayner, Sewett, Hilling and Hollier were buried in graves situated on the south side of the cemetery near the boundary wall. The graves were dug in a direct line from east to west. James Jones was buried in Haslar.
