Monday Death Claims Levi A. Taylor, 83, Former Loa Mayor

    LOA—Levi Allen Taylor, 83, former town board president of Loa and well-known figure about town, died Monday at 3:30 p.m.

    Mr. Taylor had not been in the best of health and had been very despondent since the death of his wife over a year ago. He died during the funeral of Isaac Harvey Taylor, a nephew.

    He was born at New Harmony, Washington county, July 1, 1869, a son of Allen and Phoebe Ann Roberts Taylor and attended school in Washington county. When he was 15 years old the family moved to Wayne county.

    A farmer and livestock man all his life, he also was active in LDS church activities and civic affairs. He served for two years as town board president of Loa and was one of the men instrumental in getting sidewalks installed in Loa and also was the first man to place a long distance telephone call through the new dial system which was installed in Loa last summer.

    He served a mission for the LDS church to California in 1909 and had worked in the Wayne LDS stake and Loa LDS ward MIA for many years. He also served in the Sunday school organization in both the ward and the stake as well as serving in the high council of the stake and at the time of his death was a high priest.

    On October 28, 1890 he married Rhoda Catherine Jameson. She died December 19, 1950.

    Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Horace (Elvira) Dastrup, Sigurd, Sevier county; Mrs. Brigham (Viola) Rees and Mrs. Harold (Loa) Johansen, both of Loa; Mrs. Douglas (Nola) Hunt, Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Curg (Norma) Madsen, Provo; six sons, Alford Taylor, on a mission in California; Leonard and Thaine Taylor, Loa; Stanford Taylor, Provo; Owen Taylor, Salina; and Quenten Taylor, San Juan Bautista, Cal.; two brothers, Wilford Taylor, Burley, Ida.; and Allen Taylor, Loa; two sisters, Mrs. Matilda Devitt, American Fork; Mrs. Kirrilla Goddard, Benson, Ariz.; 40 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Wayne LDS stake tabernacle by Grant Brown, bishop of the Loa LDS ward.

    Burial will be in the Loa cemetery under the direction of the Peterson Mortuary of Richfield.

    Friends may call at the family home Thursday evening and Friday morning prior to services.
