David Austin Colvin Sr., 71, of Helena, passed away Tuesday evening, July 12, 2011. He was born on May 4, 1940, in Helena to Michael and Ida (Austin) Colvin.

Dave worked at several jobs in Helena including Evans Blacksmith Shop, Northside Welding and the Smelter. He was best known for his amazing welding abilities and being able to weld just about anything. He moved to Livingston in 1973 and retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad.

Dave spent a lot of time at Tizer Lake, Priest Pass, Park Lake and the Mill Creek area out of Livingston, doing what he loved best — hunting, fishing and camping.

Dave married Elaine Siewert on July 23, 1960, and had three daughters and two sons. Dave and Elaine divorced in 1989. He then moved back to his hometown of Helena.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Ida; and brother, Michael Irving Colvin Jr.

He is survived by his daughters, Kris Griffiths, Kim Colvin and Kellie (Wayne) Blevins; sons, David Jr. and Daniel Colvin; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four brothers, Bert (Dorothy), Henry (Betty) Cramer, George (Shirley) and Tom (Margaret) Colvin; three sisters, Pat Read, Violet (Mike) Nick and Ethel (Jim) Pengra; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Services are pending at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be sent to the Hospice Foundation, Hospice of St. Peter's, 2475 Broadway, Helena, MT 59601, or a charity of choice.
