She grew up to womanhood in Manaska Co., Iowa, and graduated from a teacher's college at Oskalossa, Iowa, and then taught school for several years before coming to Nebraska in 1969 (should be 1869?) to the home of her brother, Whitten C. Bonsall. She taught school in Saline County for five years. She was married to Joseph Steele, April 12, 1874, and to this union were born seven children, Margaret passing away at the age of five years.

Those left to mourn her loss are: James Marion, Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Florence Eden of Alexandria; Mrs. Jesse Hinkle of Cumro, Nebraska; Mrs. Edith Eden of Belvidere; Miss Lena Steel of Prescott, Arizona; and Whitten Steel of Denver; her aged husband and companion of these many years; also 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

After their marriage they resided in Saline County near Western for eight years and then moved to Alexandria, where they have since resided with the exception of two years in Denver, with their son Marion. She united with the Christian Church at an early age and remained a true Christian ever since She united with the M E. Church at Alexandria, there being no Christian Church here, and remained so until the M E. Church burned, then united with the Presbyterian Church, of which she was member at the time of her death.

Funeral services were conducted by Dr. Turner, assisted by Rev. Bukouiz, at the Presbyterian Church Monday afternoon and burial made in the Alexandria cemetery.
