Alice Elizabeth Brinson was a daughter of Simon Speight Brinson and his second wife, Sarah C. Smith, widow McCoy. Alice was married to James Kenneth Land (1841-1916, son of James Madison Land and Ann Elizabeth Baxter) on 7 Dec. 1871. He was a former Confederate soldier.

James K. Land and Alice E. Brinson had eight children: James Jeremiah Land (1872-1938), Arthur Thomas Land (1874-1937), Maude Elma Land (1878-1958, Mrs. Joseph W. Watson), Edmund Josephus Land (1880-?, went to Baton Rouge, La.), Herbert Kenneth Land (1882-1970), Leon Llewellyn Land (1885-1958), Frederick Guy Land (1889-1906) and Alice Grace "Allie" Land (1893-1985, Mrs. John R. Taylor).
