Mr. Wilcox was born In Whitingham, Vermont October 4, 1823. When six years old he came to this town and has resided here ever since. At first his home was on what is now the Moore homestead on Weeks Street.
For many years he was proprietor of a restaurant near the old Stark house on the present site of the Willoughby block on Main Street. About 5 years ago he started in the coal business. He continued in this line of work until infirmities incident to old age compelled him to give up active life. The deceased was a member of the Baptist church for many years. He was a business-man of ability and was always noted for his honesty in all transactions. By his death Bennington not only loses one of its oldest citizens, but also one of its best.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Walter Davis of Gardner, Massachusetts, one brother, Frank Wilcox of Long Branch, New Jersey, two granddaughters, Mrs. Edward O'Neil and Miss Belle Smith of this town and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held from his home on Jefferson Avenue at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, Rev. W. W. Brunk officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in the Bennington Center cemetery.
