Religious Figure. Television Evangelist. Entrepreneur. Born in Cordele, Georgia, and raised in Macon, Marcus Daron Lamb accepted Christianity at the age of five, and continued to be an active witness for his faith throughout his life. From his own account, Lamb was preaching by age 15, and at 16 was enrolled in Lee University, a private Christian college located in Cleveland, Tennessee. Upon graduation, Lamb was ordained in the Church of God-Cleveland, Tennessee, and worked as a traveling evangelist. In 1981, he founded the "Word of God Fellowship" in Macon, Georgia, an organization which would eventually grow into the Daystar Television Network. In 1985, Lamb started WMCF-TV in Montgomery, Alabama, becoming the first Christian television station in the state. Moving to Texas in 1990, Lamb acquired KMPX-TV, and by 1997 had co-founded the Daystar Television Network, which currently claims more than 2 billion viewers worldwide, and includes the first Christian based television station in Israel. Lamb's ministry appealed to a diverse audience, and he strongly advocated that the church needed to directly confront the evils of racism and bigotry. His call for change became even louder with the murder of George Floyd in 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lamb became a strident anti-vaccine advocate before he died at age 64 from complications caused by the Covid-19 virus.
