He was preceded in death by his parents, George Thomas and Nancy Etter Karr Cooper; his wife, Josephine Bearden Cooper; his brothers and sisters, Ethel Hanigan, George "Junior" Cooper, Willie "Bill" Cooper, Edith Barkman, Jesse Cooper, Sr., and Ruby Wilson.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Justin and Karen Cooper of Ashdown, Arkansas and James "Ricky" Cooper; two sisters, Doris Barker of West Virginia and Irene Adams and a number of nieces and nephews.
