Eliza (Lyon) Griffin
Eliza Lyon was born on 17 Feb 1818 in Chatham, Columbia County, New York, United States, the eldest child of David Lyon and his wife Sarah Wilbur. Her parents moved several times, from Chatham, Columbia County, New York, to Guilford, Chenango County, New York, to Elba, Genesee County, New York, to Hudson (Lyons), Walworth County, Wisconsin, and then to Iowa Falls, Hardin County, Iowa.

She married Gilbert Taylor Griffin on 28 Mar 1837, in Elba, Genesee County, New York. Records spell her married name as both Griffin and Griffen. Gilbert was born 6 Nov 1805 in New York, the son of Charles T. Griffin and his wife Martha Taylor. Eliza and Gilbert lived in Elba, but by 1850, had moved 655 miles west to Lyons, Walworth County, Wisconsin, where other family members lived. They did not have any children.

Eliza, aged 45, died on 24 June 1863, in Lyons, Walworth County, Wisconsin, and was buried there in Lyons Quaker Cemetery. At her side was buried her husband, Gilbert, who died 26 years later on 8 Feb 1889, aged 83, in Lyons.

Eliza's paternal grandfather, Thomas Lyon, Revolutionary War veteran, early settler and founder of Lyon, was also buried in Lyons Quaker Cemetery.
