Ruth Hallock
Grandmother Ruth Hallock, in her seventieth year, died at 12:30 yesterday morning and was buried beside her husband, in the Ft. Calhoun cemetery, today.
In their young days the aged couple were extremely hard workers and some years ago they sought quiet and rest and came to Ft. Calhoun and bought them a little home with the Second Advent colony. In time, Grandfather Hallock became sick and after suffering two years died at the age of seventy-five, having been married nearly forty-eight years.
Grandmother Hallock never recovered from the shock and so about thirteen months after she followed him. Her son Edward, her daughter, Mrs. Potter of Omaha, and a sister from Iowa, besides friends and neighbors, did all they could to save her life as long as possible.
Father and Mother Hallock differed from us in their religion and mode of living, but we do not know of any couple who lived closer to their Savior or had a brighter, better hope of Heaven. Their Christian life certainly speaks for them. The sermon was preached by Rev. Ware, of the Presbyterian church, Omaha, and was a clear, pure description of the duties and trials of motherhood and the care and kindness that all owe to her kindness and tenderness. Among others present were Doctor Patten and small children, of Omaha, Mr. Eugene Patten and wife, Mr. Parker, of Blair, and Rev. Thompson, of Fremont, the latter beginning a series of meetings at the Second Advent church.
This is the first death among our five hundred people within two miles of the post office for over one year. This aged couple were our friends and we shall miss them.
