Jon Virgil Payne (known to some family and friends as Jack), formally of New Bern, NC, passed away in his sleep at Casa de la Luz Hospice in Tucson, Arizona on Sunday, March 20th, 2022. Predeceased by his parents, Rolla C. Payne and Leona McCurry Payne, his siblings Madelyn Dunham, Margaret Arlene Payne, and Charles Payne.

He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Melissa and Kristin, his grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Jason, Safa, Miriam, Sydney, Savannah, Donavan, Barden, and Ashley and 18 great grandchildren! Jon is also survived by his sister-in-law, Melanie, his nephew, Richard, his great niece, Maya, and his great nephew, Barack; as well as too many friends to mention!

Jon was born August 31, 1937, in Wichita, Kansas in a prodigious dust storm. He grew up in Augusta, Kansas, where he graduated from Augusta High School. Jon attended University of Kansas and served in the USAF. Jon spent 27 years as a city planner for Littleton, Colorado. He was also a deacon in the Russian Orthodox Church.

Jon was a wonderful person: kind, smart, funny, and adorable. He was very loved by his family and will be terribly missed.
