C.F. Roberts, Apple Valley Farmer Dies

CALDWELL--Clarence Rufus Roberts, 75, of Parma, a resident of the Apple Valley community for the last 30 years, died Thursday morning in his home.

Mr. Roberts was born Sept. 19, 1877, at Greeley, Colo. He was married Oct. 1, 1908, at Greeley to Ethel Wyn Fezer and the couple lived at Rupert, Hermiston, Ore. and Goldendale, Wash. before moving to the Apple Valley community in 1922.

He was a member of the Parma IOOF and the Wilder Grange.

Surviving are Mrs. Roberts; three sons, Fred of Twin Falls; Norman of Yakima, Wash.; and Harold of Snohomish, Wash.; one half brother Charles Bogan of Yuba City, Cal., and 7 grandchildren.

Correction & additions: Clarence was born 18th of September not the 19th. Both WW1 & 2 Draft notices and his Social Security Information, that he was responsible for, all have the September 18, 1877. Fred, the oldest son, provided the information on the death certificate and the news papers published that date. Grandmothers name was Ethelwyn, not Ethel Wyn. Like many others of the time, she took her maiden name of Fezer for her middle name, after they got married. Until then she had no middle name. Also Clarence was survived by half brother Charles Vogan, not Bogan. Charles was a prominent rancher out of Yuba, California. Clarence was also survived by two sisters-in-law Charles wife, Georgian (Rhodes) Vogan, Portland, OR., and another sister-in-law, Grace (Dawson) Vogan, Portland, OR., wife of half brother John Vogan.

Those that preceded him in death were his father, Samuel Roberts 1814-1853, and mother, Anna E (Watson) Roberts 1839-1906, both who are buried in Greeley, CO.

Mothers side: - Half brothers: Harry Norman Pritchard 1859-1920; Charles Edward Vogan 1866-1854; & John Watson Vogan 1868-1939 all born in Iowa. (Annie had been widowed twice before marrying Samuel in 1876)

On his father's side by his first wife: Half sister Mary Caroline Roberts 1837-1924; William Clark Roberts 1840-1892, both born in Connecticut, & Walter S Roberts 1846-1899, born in Michigan. These were the three children who survived to adulthood.
