Sam J. Accardo, a retired air traffic controller, died Sunday at his home of cancer. He was 67. Mr. Accardo was born in Baton Rouge and lived in New Orleans for the past 38 years. He attended Louisiana State University and worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 30 years. He attended Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. He was a ham radio operator for International Mission Radio Association, and served in the Army Air Corps. Survivors include his wife, Catherine A. Accardo; two sons, Thomas A. and Paul J. Accardo; one daughter, Theresa Accardo Schilling; three brothers, Philip, Joe and Anthony Accardo; and six grandchildren. A visitation will be held tonight from 6-10 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home and a Mass will be said Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, 9701 Hammond St. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery.
