Samuel Harrison Dragoo, Jr. 84, Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2008.

After graduation from Tech High School, he served as a PFC with the United States Army during WWII. He was a paratrooper with the C Company 1st Battalion in New Guinea. He received two Purple Hearts and The Bronze Star for his service. Sam was a member of the American Legion.

He worked at the Indianapolis Times as Circulation Manager having 75 paper boys. He served as Purchasing Agent with Naval Avionics and Service Supply. He was a salesman with Sears Roebuck and Co. He spent many years in maintenance with New Palestine Schools, Insley Manufacturing and he retired from the Indiana High School Athletic Association.

Sam lived over 50 years in Hancock County. He served as Marshall of Spring Lake for some time.

When you play your next game of Euchre or eat a hamburger and fries at Steak n' Shake, think of Sam. Those were his favorite pastimes. He also loved western movies and books.

Sam never met a stranger. He was always willing to help his friends. He always remembered the less fortunate at Christmas.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Harrison and Samuel E. Dragoo, Sr.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Melvina Kay (Richey) Dragoo; his twin daughters, Susan (David) Bardes and Sally (James) Hart; his sister, Janet (Howard) Mass-Catt; his 95 year old aunt, Juanita Fewell; his grandchildren, Andrew Richter, Randall (Jennifer) Richter, Christopher Bardes, Dr. April (Bardes) (Gregory) Johnson, M.D. and Johnathon (Lisa) Richter.

Per Sam's wishes his body was donated to the Indiana University Medical Center.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m. in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Washington Park East, with calling from Noon until the time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Samuel Harrison Dragoo Jr., 84, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008. He was a resident of Indianapolis.

After graduation from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, he served as a private first class with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a paratrooper with the 1st Battalion, Company C, in New Guinea. He received a medical discharge due to wounds to his leg and arm. He received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for his service. Sam was a member of the American Legion.
