Jimmy was born to James Vernon Sr. and Bertha (Sullivan) Waters. He married his childhood sweetheart, Reba Lucille Jackson, in Corinth, Miss., on Dec. 9, 1948. She survives.


Also surviving are his children, Jennifer (William) Lovan, Jeffrey Waters, Marsha (John) Oesterle, Linda (Paul) O'Donnell, Pamela Waters, Scott (Sherry) Waters and John Waters; and sister, Vivian (Hardin) Choate.


He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two infant brothers.


J.V. was a lifelong musician in the Peoria area, playing his favorite instrument, the steel guitar, with many local country-western groups and bands. He performed for many charitable organizations and veterans benefits. A self-taught musician, J.V. learned to play many various instruments, and as a young man in Tennessee, he soon had opportunities to play music with such noted stars as Ernest Tubb and the Texas Troubadors, Little Jimmy Dickens, Faron Young and back-up musician for the Grand Ole Opry.


J.V. was a lifetime member of the Peoria Federation of Musicians.


J.V. was a Caterpillar retiree, employed there for over 30 years and last working in 1992.


He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, U.A.W. Local 974 and served his country in the Tennessee National Guard during World War II.


J.V. was a long-time member of Laramie St. Baptist Church of Peoria, where he played steel guitar for the music ministry.


J.V. loved fishing, playing music, rocking his grandbabies, telling funny stories about growing up in the hills of Tennessee and spending time with his family and friends.
