They moved from Tennessee to Monroe County, Missouri , in about 1831 . A year later he was baptized into the Mormon Church along with other members of his family. The family moved to Clay County and then to Caldwell County . While still in his teens, he helped in the resistance movement. He later returned to Far West to help his family move to Nauvoo, Illinois , where, after an illness, he met and married Orissa . He helped build the Nauvoo Temple, and he built a home which he sold for $35 when they left Nauvoo . Having no wagon or equipment, they went to Council Bluffs with Orson Pratt . He found employment and was able to purchase equipment for the move west. He lived in Tooele and Grantsville on farms and built the first house in St. Charles, Idaho , where he lived the rest of his life. He was active in the Church and in civic callings, being a Justice of the Peace, County Clerk and County recorder. He was Ward and Stake Sunday School Superintendent. He had 14 children altogether.
