Mary Ann Zimonopoulos, age 58, beloved wife, daughter, sister, and mother of four, passed away after a two-year struggle with cancer at the Halifax Health Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. Born to William and Doris Baxter, graduated from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Special Education and held various certifications, including ESE, K-12, and ESL. Her journey as an educator began in 1987 and taught at Maury County Schools in Columbia, Tennessee, Escambia County Schools in Pensacola, Florida, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE)/NATO, US DoDDS, in Mons, Belgium, J.C. Booth Middle School in Peachtree City, Georgia, Hampton City Schools in Hampton, Virginia, and Volusia County City Schools in Daytona Beach, Florida. Mary Ann's commitment to education has contributed to the profound betterment of the lives of children with special needs and their families.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 32 years, Gregory; children, Theodore, Evan, Sophia, and Nicholas; mother, Doris Fay; brothers, Wayne and Douglas; other extended family, and lifelong friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15th at the Dormition of the Theotokos in Clearwater, Florida. Burial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16th at Riverside Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, Georgia.
