William Coleman Burton was born in Walker co. Alabama.
He was the son of John H. Burton and Nancy Catherine Sides
He married Elizabeth Tennessee Guttery Oct 8, 1879.

They had 10 children, Minnie, Hattie, Sudie, Annie, Emmie,Maggie, Clemmie, John, Floyd and William.

Early in the 1900s William struck oil in Erath co. Texas.
Things went well for a few years but a big oil company came in and whipstocked him. He wound up running a grocery store in Girard, Kent co. Texas. He was not a very good business man and did poorly in the grocery store business. he died pretty much penniless.
