Roy L. Shuler, 94, of Lovett was the father of 22 children

Roy L. Shuler, formerly of Lovett, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Lee County Constant Care Health Center at Beattyville, Ky.

Funeral service was held Feb. 3 at the Wells Funeral Home in Clay City, Ky., with his son, Mike Shuler, pastor of the Solid Rock Community Church of Scottsburg, officiating. Burial was in Cobb Hill Cemetery in Estill County, Kentucky.

Mr. Shuler worked at Morgan Packing Co. and farmed for many years after the family moved from Vaughns Mill, Ky., to Austin in 1950. He operated a sawmill in the Lovett area and also worked as a custodian at Seymour Public Schools. He enjoyed gardening and gospel music.

Born May 13, 1913, in Lee County, Kentucky, he was the son of Wesley and Mertie Gross Shuler.

He is survived by seven sons, Jess Shuler of Albuquerque, N.M., Roger Shuler of Lexington, Bill Shuler of Hartsvile, Tenn.; Oscar and Mike Shuler of Deputy, Eugene Shuler of Seymour, and David Shuler of Clay City, Ky.; 12 daughters, Dorothy Davidson, Ada Malcomb, and Joyce Lamb of Deputy; Marcella Griffiths of Scottsburg, Donna Shockley of Los Lunas, N.M., Kathleen Boling of Seymour, Brenda Schmalz of Watseka, Ill., Carolyn Mailloux of Fowler; Bernice Hogan of Beattyville, Geraldine Dillard of Lancaster, Ky., Marilyn Burns and Lois Bailey of Winchester, Ky.

Other survivors are two brothers, Jim and Gary Shuler of Clay City, Ky.; two sisters, Flossie Shuler of Clay City and Clara Abney of Ohio; 46 grandchildren and many great- and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Clay Tipton Shuler; his second wife, Ruth Hess Shuler; two sons, Bobby and Delbert Shuler; a daughter, Sharon Shuler; one brother, Elmer Shuler; and four sisters, Ivory Crowe, Ella Spencer, Ollie and Dovie Branham.
