A native of Garrard County, Kentucky, Charles Ingram McQuerry was the son of William McQueary (1765-1832) & Nancy Ann "Hannah" Shepherd (1770-1835). He married Mary Ann Alcorn on July 18, 1832, & they were the parents of seven children, five of whom survived to adulthood: William M. McQuerry, M.D. (1833-1909), Eliza Ann McQuerry (1835-1835), George McQuerry 1838-1864), James Commodore McQuerry (1838-1912), Simeon McQuerry (1840-1842), Alfred Alcorn McQuerry (1846-1906), & Charles Ivan McQuerry (1846-1914). The 1850 U.S. Census identifies him as a farmer living in Jessamine County, Kentucky, earning an estate worth $5,000. The 1860 U.S. Census notes that he was a stock raiser living at Salt Hill, Jack County, Texas.
