She spent her childhood years on the family farm on Possum Hollow Road and attended the one room school house at Millford Crossroads. She graduated from Newark High School where she was a standout in track and field. She continued her education at Wilmington High night school and Beacom College for secretarial studies. Although life on the family farm was austere and without electricity or plumbing, she looked upon it fondly and often talked of the family's weekly trips to Wilmington by horse and carriage and the dances she attended at Whiteman's garage on Paper Mill Road.
She later moved to Wilmington and was married to Jesse A. Gawronski in 1944.
During the war, Agnes was employed by the NVF Wilmington Shops where she was a quick study and was commended for her abilities as a machinist. After the war, Agnes and her husband settled in Elsmere where they were among the original parishioners of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She retired from Sears after a 20 year career in 1980.
Agnes loved to travel and toured Hawaii, Mexico, Bermuda, and Europe on several occasions as well as took cruises on the Caribbean. She also took numerous family train and car trips throughout the US and Canada. In later years, she enjoyed visiting the local casinos. Agnes was an excellent cook and seamstress and enjoyed preparing traditional Polish meals.
In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse A. Gawronski, her brothers, Francis (who died as an infant), Joseph, John, Marion, William (Bud), Stanley and Edward Kwiatkowski; her sisters, Margaret, Helen and Anne Kwiatkowski, and Mary Mikesell (Joseph).
She is survived by sons, Gerald Gawronski and Gordon Gawronski and his wife, Patricia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Corpus Christi Church, 905 New Road, Wilmington, DE 19805, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am.
