MORGART, John Cessna
b: Apr 15 1815, Bedford Co, PA
d: Mar 5 1897, Henry Co, MO
bur: Shawnee Mound Cemetery, Shawnee Twp, Henry Co, MO
Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Mar 15 1897 - John C. Morgart died at his residence, one mile northwest of Shawnee Mound, on March 5th, 1897, of plural pheumonia having taken sick three days after the death of his wife, which occurred on the 12th of February, 1897. He was born and raised in Bedford Co, Pennsylvania April 15, 1815, and came West and settle in Henry County, Illinois, in March, 1864, and resided there four years. In March, 1868, he came to Henry County, Mo, and settled on a farm in Springfield Township, eight miles east of Clinton. In 1869 he joined the Baptist Church at Mount Olivet. He leaves a family of nine children, four boys and five girls, and a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his loss.

*There is a George S. Morgart 1858-1858 2 mos, b/d Bedford PA, son of J.& E. in Allegany Md cemetery who is shown in some trees as son of John and Elizabeth. Not proved, seems unlikely he would be in a Maryland cemetery. There is a photo.

ALERT: A Wilson R. Mogart who died 1875 and is buried in Henry Co IL with John's first wife, Elizabeth, has been linked as a son. The top portion of his marker is laying near the marker for Elizabeth. He does not appear in 1850 or 1860 census records. Unless he was born between 1860 census and 1864 when Elizabeth died, and was living with a family member in 1870, it seems unlikely he is John's son.

Thanks to Martha for the following:

Note: While some researchers show aka for John as "Jeb", it is more likely for Job Morgart (1800-1875) in Bedford Co, Pennsylvania with a wife, Hannah.

Family MAY have lived in Allegany Co, Maryland for a time, undocumented.
