The following courtesy of Tony Klingensmith, who is writing a book aboout the 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry:
Name of William Morgan with same dates - "Private, Company K, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. According to Andersonville prison records, he was captured at Mine Run, Virginia, on May 5, 1864 and was held at Andersonville but survived. Another source says he was captured just after Gettysburg and was taken to Andersonville prison where he died. A third source says he was captured during the attack on the regiment's camp on November 18, 1863 and was taken to Andersonville where he died. Yet another source says he died in prison at Florence, South Carolina, on November 18, 1864. Also listed as Morgan and Mergart.

Probably buried in an unmarked grave at Florence Stockade, South Carolina. Father Jeb Morgart filed for a pension on September 21, 1888, application number 296,896, certificate number 294,694. Date of death also listed as November 1, 1864.

See 18th PA Cav for a virtual cemetery of the 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry."

The author commented: "William is listed on the regimental roster as Morgan and in the PA Archives as Morgan. But I've also seen his name as Morgart which appears to be correct. His PA Veterans card lists his death at Florence S.C. in 11/64. Given that most of Andersonville was abandoned in October 1864 due to William T. Sherman's approaching Union army, I suspect that Florence S.C. is the correct location of his death and burial"
