Donald F. Garlitz, 86, of Mechanicsburg passed away peacefully on October 30, 2019 at the Bridges of Bent Creek, Mechanicsburg, PA. Don was born on January 20, 1933, in Meyersdale, PA to the late Frank and Evelyn Jane (Daugherty) Garlitz. He graduated from Allegany High School and joined the Navy at age 17. After three years in the Navy on a submarine tender, he returned home to Maryland. He attended Frostburg State University, where he earned both a bachelor's and master's degree in Education. He taught high school science at Allegany High School, and then took a position with Roadway Express trucking company, where he retired after 22 years of service as a salesman and terminal manager. Don was actively involved in the Mechanicsburg Men's Club, a 50-year member, Kiwanis Club, Eureka/West Shore Masonic Lodge, Zembo Shriners motorcycle unit, and an elder at the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed time with family and friends, and fishing at his River Place on the Juniata River, Thompsontown, PA. Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Audrey Garlitz (Brooks); daughter, Nancy Kimble of Westminster, MD (Bob); daughter, Susan Peter of New Holland, PA (Jerry); and five grandchildren: Dr. Julia Thayer (Peter), Evan Thayer, Bryan Peter, William Weisgerber, and Tyler Kimble. He was preceded in death by brother, Joseph Garlitz, and sisters, Eleanor Stein and Lois Mathews. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church. There will be a visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 8 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg where there will be a Masonic service at 7:00 P.m.
