Virginia Rose Kendall was born on April 1, 1894 to Calvin Kendal and Julia Amanda Kistler in Woodburn, Allen County, Indiana.

Virginia's mother Julia contracted a contagious disease and died when VIrginia was one year old.

The father put their three children (Lillian, Clarence and Virginia Rose) in an orphanage in Fort Wayne Allen County, Indiana. The oldest child: Perry Kistler went to live with his grandparents: Michael & Esther Kistler.

Virginia Rose was adopted by George W. and Jennie V. Chase Smith and went to live in Chicago.

She was the only child in that family.

In 1915 Virginia married Max Roefer. In 1917, Virginia married Howard Leon Holmes. She would also marry an Adler. In 1933, she married Paul Schraut and they were living in Chicago with her adoptive mother- Jennie Smith.

Virginia died December 7th, 1937 and is buried at Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago.
