Shirley Jean Morency was born on February 9, 1936 in Sioux Falls, SD to George and Henrietta (Gould) Hetrick. She grew up in Sioux Falls, moving to Cass Lake MN after her marriage in 1953 to Ronald Anderson. They were later divorced. Shirley fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse in 1976 and worked until her retirement at the Beltrami Nursing Home in Bemidji. Shirley married John (Jack) Morency on August 3, 1979 in Bemidji. Following their marriage the couple lived in Bemidji before moving to Red Wing, MN in 1991, where they continued to make their home. Jack and Shirley enjoyed traveling in their small RV around the country. Shirley enjoyed decorating her home for holidays and shopping. She was artistic and enjoyed adult coloring books and embroidery. She was an avid reader of mystery novels. Shirley enjoyed having dogs and cats in her life.
Shirley is survived by her children Susan (Marti) Oeltjen and David Anderson; grandchildren Jeremiah Oeltjen, Jennifer Oeltjen, and Joseph (Nikki) Oeltjen; great-grandchildren Emili Tebay, Angela Oeltjen, Patience Putzier, Payton Oeltjen, and Wyatt Oeltjen. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 2021, a son Paul in 1991, a brother Donald Hetrick, sisters Dorothy Miller, Marjorie Davis, Lucille Bucher, Lavonne Elliot, and Gertrude Grotjohn.
