Marian Jean Covert, 92, formerly of Hunters Woods, passed away the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at Jameson Care Center. Born on Aug. 22, 1924, in New Castle, she was a daughter of William A. and Marion C. Brandon Stevenson. She was preceded in death on Nov. 23, 2014, by her husband of 71 years, Earl R. Covert, whom she married on Sept. 7, 1943. A graduate of New Castle High School, Jean was a switch board operator with Bell Telephone and was also employed with Westminster College. She was a member of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where she attended the Covenant Seekers Sunday school class. She is survived by two daughters, Marlene (Dennie) Masser of Spring, Texas, and Sandra (Craig) Holmgren of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota; two sons, Thomas A. (Janet) Covert of New Castle and William E. (Brenda) Covert of Cary, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharren King; and a grandson, Anders Holmgren. Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. John Yergan and the Rev. Philip Covert officiating. Burial will be in Fair Oaks Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.cunninghamfh.com.
