He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marian "Jean" Stevenson Covert, whom he married September 7, 1943. Earl served in the Navy during WWII as a Sonar Man Third Class, until his honorable discharge on October 16, 1945. He was employed with Penn Power Company for 36 years as a boiler operator until retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Masonic Mahoning New Castle Lodge, No. 243, the New Castle Consistory, Syria Shrine, Perry Gaston Post No. 343, and Legion of Honor. A member of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, he attended the Covenant Searchers Class.
In addition to his wife Jean, he is survived by two daughters, two sons, eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharren King-Ofslager; one brother, Thomas E. Covert; one sister, Mary Phillips; and a grandson Anders Holmgren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 30, from 2:00-4:30 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Phillip Covert, Earl's grandson, and Rev. John Yergan will be officiating. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fair Oaks Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission, 319 S. Croton Ave., New Castle, PA 16101.
