Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Heart Transplant Association at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, or First Baptist Church, Effingham.
She was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Effingham, to John Wesley and Lula Mae (Goins) Myers. She married Paul L. Askew June 15, 1940, and he preceded her in death April 3, 1995.
She worked at Keller Town and Country Furniture Store, Effingham, and was a 55-year member of First Baptist Church, Effingham.
She leaves a daughter-in-law, Susan Askew of Cobden; granddaughter, Jane and husband Randy Welborn of Harrisburg; grandsons, Grant and Blake Askew; great-grandchildren, Ashley Smith of Carbondale, Joshua, Emily and Logan Welborn of Harrisburg; great-great-grandson, Zachary Maple; sister, Marcella Aldridge of Effingham; brother, Max Myers and wife Elizabeth of McKinney, Texas; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Myers of Texas, Joe and Jan Askew of Mattoon, Bill and Louis South of Enfield, Pat and Manuel Smith of McLeansboro and Ron and Ruth Carr of Mount Vernon; special friends, Melanie Winchester and Ruth Leuschner; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was anxiously awaited in heaven by her husband; sons, Paul "Sonny" Askew and Michael Lee Askew; daughter-in-law, Kay Squires Askew; granddaughter, Anne Christine Askew; brothers and sisters, Henry Myers, Dorotha Topp, Babe Maston, Richard Myers, Robert Myers and William Myers; and numerous other family and friends.
