Phillip Edward Achtermann, age 89 of Franklin, died Thursday, April 26, 2007 in Hillsboro, Ohio. Ed was born in Butlerville, Ohio on July 23, 1917 to Carl Augusta and Edna May (Hutchinson) Achtermann. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Frances (Whitacre). He worked for the Pennsylvania RR as a conductor and brakeman during WWII. After 11 years he started dairy farming until he was employed by the State of Ohio as a dairy supervisor and retired after 22 years. Ed was a 40 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Franklin, active in the Salvation Army Food Program for 20 years, and a lifetime member of the Optimist Club of Franklin. He is survived by 4 children, Philip D. (special friend, Beverly) of Spring Valley, Roger (JoAnn) of Franklin, Marvin (Georgia) of Canal Winchester, and Janet Click of Hillsboro; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert of Miamitown and Samuel (Betty) of Wilmington; 2 sisters, Esther Lazirko of Grove City and Edna Seaman of Loveland; and a sister-in-law, Donna Achtermann. Funeral services are at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin, Ohio 45005. Burial will be in Miami Valley Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
