He is known through his daughters Esther and Helen who moved to Philadelphia in 1906. He had died by that time, but his wife Isgouhi was still alive in Arapkir. Thus he was likely born in the later 1850s or 1860s, still alive in 1885 and died by 1906. In some records his daughters had the last name Hagopian, which means child of Hagop, but in others was Minassian, which was probably Hagop's actual family name. Keeping with that tradition, he might have been the son of a Minas, but that is not confirmed. Once in the United States, his daughters guardians were Garabed Mukhalian and his wife Nartouhi. As Nartouhi's maiden name was also Minassian, it's possible she was Hagop's sister, but there is not a record for confirmation. If that is the case, Hagop was the son of Melkon Minassian and Mariam Bagdassarian.
