OBITUARY.
Death of John Kisling.

Died, on the 22d day of May, 1881, at his home in Washington Township, John Kisling, in the 63rd year of his age,

The deceased was a son of the late Henry Kisling, Esq., one of the early and honored pioneers of Preble County. John Kisling was born in Washington Township, near the place where he died, on the 20th day of January, 1819. He was trained to the business of farming, and in his youth and early manhood, by his stalwart arms assisted his father in felling the trees of the forest and opening out the farm on which he resided. He attended the school taught in his vicinity and acquired the rudiments of an education, which he afterwards improved, so that he was esteemed a man of fair information and good business qualifications.

On the 7th day of September, 1843, he was married to Miss Mary A. Mettert, with whom he lived happily to the day of his death, and who now survives him to mourn her great and irreparable loss. The deceased by his industry, frugality and careful business management acquired a goodly portion of this world's goods, improved and beautified his home, making a pleasant place to live; was a kind and obliging neighbor, and one of God's noblest works -- an honest man.

Mr. Kisling was a life long Democrat, believing with Jefferson in Constitutional liberty, the honest rule of the majority, and that all public servants should be honest, faithful and capable. He had been a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church for about 30 years, in the latter days of his life he became more liberal in his religious views, and finally died in the faith of the universal salvation of all mankind through the love and goodness of God and the mediation of the Savior.

He was confined to his room and bed for five long months, with disease of the bowels and consumption: was treated during his illness by five or six physicians, whose skill failed to arrest his disease. After he had given up hope of recovery he calmly prepared to meet the grim monster, and often repeated to his friends that he had no fears of death and was fully prepared to leave this world, with the full hope of a happy immortality.

The deceased was the father of ten children, seven of whom survive him to mourn the loss of a kind and faithful parent.

His funeral took place on the 24th of May. The funeral discourse was delivered at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, by Rev. Mr. Foster, of Indianapolis, lnd., to the largest assembly of friends and neighbors that had ever congregated at said sacred edifice.

Thus has gone to his long home a good citizen, a kind husband, father and neighbor. May he rest in peace,
