Marshall was staying with one of his grandsons Walter Mock at the time of his death. Marshall died on 28 Jan 1933 in Russell Twp., Camden, Missouri. He was buried at Little Niargua (McCain) Cemetery, Preston, Hickory, Missouri.

Story form Rachael Garcia told to the family passed down from her great grandmother (Iness May Zickefoose Burk Geiswein's sister Esther Crestina Zickefoose Walter Mock.

About the photo to the left of the sod house, would have to have been taken in Kansas not Oklahoma. The first children of Marshall and Mary were twin daughters Dessie and Bessie Zickefoose whom are in this photo. They were born about Jun 1886 around Ness county, Kansas. The first 8 children where born in Kansas.

(L to R: Probable take in 1886 or 1887 after the twins birth:

Marshall Annen Zickefoose, Mary Ellen "Molly" Culver Zickefoose, holding one of the twins Dessie or Bessie Zickefoose, Mary Susan "Mollie" Zickefoose Elliott, Virginia R. Zickefoose, Sampson Moses Zickefoose, Nancy Hannah Zickefoose Adams, hold one of the twins Bessie or Dessie Zickefoose and Thomas Andrew Zickefoose.

When Esther Crestina Zickefoose was a little girl, she and her family lived in a sod house. It was built on some land that belonged to the Indians. Her father (Marshall Annen Zickefoose) hauled freight to those little towns and settlements in Kansas and Oklahoma. He also killed Quail and shipped them back east.

Esther and her brothers and sisters were warned not to go near the Indian settlements. To make sure they didn't, their parents (Marshall and Mary) told them that the Indians would eat white children.

One day the children got bold and went spying on the Indian camp, some Indian women had a big pot cooking over an open fire. They could see a large object cooking in the pot (probably a wild goose or turkey). Of course they thought it was a baby, they went dashing home and never went back to the Indian camp ever again
