When Harry was eight he was helping his father build fencing around their farm, when suddenly his father had a stroke, Harry got a man in the next field to help take his father home, where his father died six days later leaving his mother to provide for the large family.
Harry had a hard life trying to work and keep the family together after his mother died when he was eleven. He worked for a sheep company for four years, he also ran a pack string of 12 horses in the summer and 6 horses and 2 wagons commissary in the winter. After his last sister married he moved to Drummond Idaho and ran mail to squirrell for five years.
