He moved with the family to Lyman, Idaho and attended high school in Rexburg. He joined the US Navy and participated in the landing forces in Japan. He stayed in Southern California after his discharge and operated a service station and later became a auto parts manager. He later married Marian Horne and had three children. When they divorced, he married Ruth Binns. They later moved to Cave Junction, Oregon and lived there until his death on 13 October 2006.
His body was cremated and his widow, Ruth, has them at her home in Cave Junction.
