Earl Luther "Luke" Phillips, 82, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Earl Luther "Luke" Phillips was born Dec. 12, 1925, to Earl Herbert and Nescaleto Phillips in Texline. He grew up in Comanche County, where he met Maudine "Deanie" McMillan. They married on May 12, 1948, and made their home in Fort Worth.
Earl served his country proudly during the second World War in the Navy. He was stationed in the Pacific Islands and was assigned to the USS Springfield (C166), serving as a turret gunner.
An honorable moment for him during his service was when his ship safeguarded the surrender ceremony in Tokyo Bay.
Earl was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Some of his favorite moments were spent surrounded by loved ones, watching the Dallas Cowboys, having picnics in the park, playing ball and riding bikes with his children and grandchildren.
Earl was a master electrician and owned his own company for 20 years, Phillips Electric Signs. While in business, he developed a good working relationship with many friends and acquaintances.
He took pride in his work and chose to honor God with the talents he was blessed with. Earl loved his Lord and Savior and dedicated his life to serving Him.
When in good health he was active in the church, serving on various committees, participating in prayer groups, Bible studies and serving as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joann Halyard.
Survivors: Wife of 60 years, Maudine "Deanie" Phillips; daughters, Janet Hughes and husband, Jaime and Judy Pastusek and husband, Louis; grandchildren, Charlie, Forrest and Jordan Halyard, Jaclyn Hughes Cano and husband, John, Jessica Miller and husband, Michael, John Hughes, Jerod Yarborough and Frank Pastusek; great-grandchildren, Forrest Jr., Imagine, Madison and Ashton Halyard, twins, Jaycie and Joie Miller, and Joseph Halyard; siblings, Bob Phillips, Jean Wood, Ray Phillips and Roger Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews.
