On January 15, 2023, Matthew Casper Moehn, Jr., passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

The eldest of eleven children, he was born March 14, 1925, to the late Matthew and Magdalena Moehn. He married Sylvia (De La Hunt) on June 7, 1947, at St. Mary's Church in Stockbridge.

Matthew (Matt) was a man of strong faith and love of family. He was a life-long member of St. Mary of the Seven Dolors in Stockbridge, served as parish treasurer (retired), and belonged to the Holy Name Society.

Matt held many titles in his life from farmer to turbine engineer, but his favorite titles were husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and Uncle Matt. He especially enjoyed visiting with family, telling stories from his childhood on the home farm or catching up on the latest family news.

He was fascinated with any piece of equipment with a motor and enjoyed reading owner manuals cover-to-cover. The first thing any of his children did after purchasing a car was to take dad for a ride. In his later years, much to his children's dismay, he would sneak rides from willing drivers on equipment that interested him.

The golfing bug bit him finally from "those son-in-laws of mine". He enjoyed league golf and partnered with his brother Art for years at Hickory Hills. He also liked playing with other family members and discussing the game after.

Matt was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; their twin daughters: Eileen (Moehn) Caldwell and Kathleen (Moehn) Hayes; a granddaughter: Angel Daun; his parents; and his siblings: Lucille, Luella, George, Harold, Clifford, Mary, Helen, and Arthur.

Matthew is survived by: Lawrence (Patricia) Moehn, and their children: Jason, Jeremiah, Justin, and Jarrett (Briana Knight); son-in-law: Gene Hayes (Kathy), and their children: Kelly Diederich, Megan (Brady) Forrestal, Erin (William) Kenneally, Molly (Andrew) Ceelen, and Matthew (Kaitlyn) Hayes; Eileen's children: Katherine (Aly) Diop and Regina (Daniel) Stowers; Barbara (James) Schwarz, and their children: Amy Waggoner and Samantha (Brent) Wedan; Kaye (Joseph) Shukosky, and their children: Tracy (Daniel) Bits and Ariana (Toua) Xiong; Monica Lisowe (Ed Petersen), and her children: Sarah (Josh) Count and Jonathon (Bridgette) Lisowe; Mary (Roman) Daun, and their children: Adam and Sylvia (Dillon Berry); twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Matt is further survived by his siblings and sisters-in-law: Gerald (Patricia) Moehn, Carol (Richard) Mueller, Doris Moehn, and Eileen Moehn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church (120 Davis St.) in Stockbridge, with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 12:45 pm on the day of service.
