Samuel M Cooke,66, 3721 Barnwell Dr., died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 28, 1990. He was born on September 5, 1923 in Winston-Salem to Everette Lee and Annie Carter Cooke. Mr. Cooke was in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to serving as a Corporal in the United States Army during WWII. He joined the United States National Guard and was promoted to Sergeant. He was of the Moravian faith and was a member of the White Rock Civic Club. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 33 years of service. He was preceded in death by a sister,Mrs. Estelle Winfrey, and a brother, Mr. Leon Cooke. Surviving are his wife, Carrie Mae Lashmit Cooke, of the home, his mother Annie Carter Cooke, Winston-Salem; two sons, Fred S. Cooke and Lanny C. Cooke both of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Mrs. H.R.(Jo) Brannock, Mrs. George (Earlene) Naylor, and Mrs. Fred (Lisa) Hepler, all of Winston-Salem, and Mr. Reid Cooke, Lake Norman and five grandchildren.Graveside services will be 2 pm. Saturday at Gardens of Memory, Walkertown by the Rev. Craig Polk. The family will receive friends from 7pm to 9 pm Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
